Luricth

Bonded to Ealric Grove

About

Straighforward, good-natured, and an exceptional hand at living in the moment, Luricth doesn’t drag Ealric out of his self-conscious self-sabotage so much as he simply ambles towards an easier way of being, leaving Ealric to trail along behind him in consternation. Luri is an ambitious youngster, too, but in a way that wholly leaves aside the idea that he’s being ambitious because he wants other peoples’ accord and acclaim. He just likes to be good at things he enjoys.

Namely: sports. He came out of the shell ready to rumble and boy howdy he’s going to keep up that streak. He’s got an inborn sense of good sportsmanship, and while he’s not the first guy to step up into a leadership position, he’ll probably find himself a role model as he grows up. He wins well, he loses well, and he enjoys winning more than losing, so he works hard to compete. He adores Ealric for his eye for strategy — Ric’s the brains, he’ll say, while Lur’s the brawn! — but he does find himself having to course-correct for his bond’s social climbing a lot of the time, which he does largely by love-bombing his poor unsuspecting partner till he acquiesces.

(Excerpt from the Memorial Weyr Hatching, written by Yakima)

Ealric Grove had a plan. Or at least in the past tense of the moment. Those plans had been quite perfect in his mind – after all, how hard could bonding a dragon be? He had gone to help several hatchlings from trips, falls, or even the silver that had been quite vicious to the two little greens (all three had walked away from him). His plan had been simple but as he watched yet another hatchling wiggle away through the chaos he let out a long sigh.

Maybe he just needed a new plan?

Or maybe…

Ealric spun around, fists clenched as the unfamiliar voice came to him as if right behind him.

…you need to stop trying to plan? This isn’t a game. What is dragonball? Can I play?

A bronze stepped around a group of candidates that had – for whatever reason – simply moved aside to let him pass. Ealric’s mouth dropped open as he stared at the bronze that was not quite a bronze but definitely bronze at the same time. He could not place it, it just was in that moment. “You’re…” he paused as the hatchling came to touch his hand, a warmth of acceptance and love spreading through Ealric as the bronze did so. “You’re Luricth…”

And you’re Ealric Grove and you’re from a world far away which I really want to see. And to play dragonball! Ealric grinned at this, then took a deep breath before walking off the sands with his head held high; and explaining everything to his dragon about the Nidus and dragonball.
