Onessa

More than anything — more than being truly evil or black-hearted — Onessa is arrogant and unconcerned with the needs of most other people, especially humanoids. Her father Cheran helped her become that way, doting fiercely on her though she tended to bicker with his favorite son, Cherek. She is direct and blunt, lacking the subtlety in mannerisms that her father tries to cultivate. She considers this to be a more honest approach. It makes her a force to be reckoned with when paired with her immovable stubbornness, and if she sets her mind on something, it will happen.

Or will not happen, as was the case with her lack of bonding at her hatching.

She is a dragon with a cause in that regard. The standard Old World approach bonding, where a dragon must bond or die, is barbaric, and even if many places have found ways to loosen up that deadly tie and even break bonds that aren’t working out, the whole system is exploitative and unjustifiable. She champions against mandatory bonding, and has been needling the more science-minded and magic-minded folks of the Nidus to come up with a suitable and acceptable substitute for those dragonets who must bond upon hatching.

Those who are willing to be recruited by her tend to be passionate about the cause too, feeding into her certainty about her quest. That said, it’s a crusade for those who may not necessarily want it, but Onessa will never be swayed from her zealous certainty.

This was a controversial perspective when she first pressed to be considered for the position of Optima, but Veoimath, after some consideration, accepted her bid. It was a few years before the Mists and the Prima at that time was realizing she had surrounded herself with yes-men; Onessa, with all her contrarian agitation, was anything but. Though occasionally bumpy it has been a surprisingly valuable relationship for both, as widening the scope of her drive for justice gave the clever hydra a chance to expand her political skillset considerably.

To abolish bonding. To provide a suitable substitute for those who are genetically required to bond.
